Synod Pastoral Committee

supporting our local churches

The Synod Pastoral committee (SPC) works with the Area Pastoral Committees to oversee the life of the congregations within the Synod. The SPC is responsible for making decision about the deployment of ordained ministry within the guidelines set by the central church. It has representation from all areas of the Synod. The Clerk and the Moderator are ex-officio members of the committee.

Most recently, the SPC and the Area Pastoral Committees created Missional Partnerships, within which all of our congregations are set – seeing them as the locus for mission, the sharing of resources and best practice.

Functions of the Synod Pastoral Committee

  • works closely with the Ministries Committee sharing ideas about training and the variety of non-ordained ministry within the Synod

    • to be there when the life of a church has run its course in a particular place and will, alongside the Area Pastoral Committee, assist with the processes required for closure
    • to review the procedures and practices of the Area Pastoral Committees
    • to provide mutual support for the Conveners of the Pastoral Committees
    • to consult on the deployment of ministers across the Synod
    • to oversee the programme of ministerial accompanied self appraisal
